Panama

About two weeks ago, my husband and I had the opportunity to go to Panama for a wedding. But, for some background, because Panama is such a random place to go.

Will served his mission in Panama, and just fell in love with the people there. He has gone back almost every year after his mission and he's been back for about 7 years. One of his best friends, Emil, invited to us to his wedding in the Panama City Temple and how could we not resist.

I was pretty nervous going because even tho I live in Arizona, I hardly know Spanish and have never been south of the border. I was afraid I would be the cute silent wife sitting in the corner, not saying a word because I couldn't understand the language. I must say it was a little like that but I had so much fun and fell in love with the people there as well.

We we got there, Noriel (Will's very best friend) picked us up from the airport and we had dinner at Tyty's house, one of the families Will taught of his mission. The food is super strange, I didn't really eat anything that whole week, I'm a very picky eater.

Tyty is the little girl in the front and her family.

The Food.

The next Will had an interview at the Vista Mar Golf Resort. The resort was about two hours away from the city.

Driving in Panama is CRAZY!!! There is no speed limits and no one uses signals. They all kind of drive like I do. I wouldn't mind driving there everyday.
They also have crazy public buses. Look it out decked out they are. Will said they blast music, and we called them party buses. Will use to have to ride them when he was on his mission.

Tuesday Will had another Interview for the Santa Maria Golf Resort right in the city.

After that we decided we would go have lunch at the famous Panama Canal!

Funny Story: So I guess Brad Pitt and Angelia Jolie have a house in Panama. Will and I were waiting for the elevator to go up to the top and the elevator was full of people getting off and we were the only ones getting on. When the doors opened everyone started talking and I had no idea what they were saying. Will told me that they thought we were Brad and Angelia. LOL! He said all gringos look the same to them.  So we decided to play up the whole Brad and Angelia persona.

Wednesday- We got to play tourist, Pirates play a huge part in Panama's history, so we went to the runes of the old churches and castles the Pirates built, it's called Panama Viejo or old town Panama. Will's friend Luis and his wife came with us.

Later that day we went the zoo. We picked up Tyty and Noreil for the rest of the days adventures.

This Toucan wanted to play model with us and just sat on this branch and let us take pictures of him.

Monkey!

It started to rain, and if you can see on my shoe I stepped in some mud.

Next we went to the top of the world. Not really, its called Cerro Ancon, a tall hill with a large flag of Panama on the top, where you can see all of the city.

Lastly we took a bike ride across the causeway. It's this long bridge to a little island filled with restaurants, club, and yacht clubs.

Thursday- We went to San Blas. There is a bunch of islands off the coast of Panama where all of the natives live. Will told me that President Hinckley said
the Kuna Indians on San Blas are the last remaining bloodline of laminites on the earth.

One of the men trying to sell us crabs.

Will said the Kune Indians are primarily Mormon and as missionaries they would go and baptized the children when they were eight.

We had to take a little boat out to the island.

San Blas was beautiful!

On the drive back I got really sick, and we dropped everyone off at home and went back to the hotel room.

Friday- It was Emil's Wedding that day. But sadly, I was deathly sun burnt and had to stay in the hotel room. Will's got a  picture of the temple for me.

Saturday- I went to the hospital, because I had gotten sun poisoning. White girl+all day in the sun=Hospital trip

I had really bad facial swelling and was pretty sick. Will took me to the nicest hospital in the city. The one he went to when he was on his mission. They gave me an IV of two bags of electrolytes and some meds. I had a pretty speedy recovery. I was almost completely better in 4-5 days.

Sunday- We went home.

I am so grateful that we had the opportunity to go and explore Panama. Will has expressed his love of the country many times and now I know why. The people are so kind and loving. They love you the minute you walk in there door. I think we all get caught us in our lives and start to think we are the center of the universe, and going to Panama humbled me and taught me that I can be happy with just being with the people I love.

We Love you Panama!
