Grandparents are the parents you like a lot more then your own parents. The let you eat all the cookies you want, they tell you wonderful stories of the old days, and teach you life lessons you couldn't live without.
Meet Grandma and Grandpa Hundley. They had five children, Marianne, Greg, Melidee ( my mother), John, and Joshua. Joshua was my favorite uncle (shhh!! don't tell), he passed away when he was 17 of eye cancer, but I will never forget playing with Uncle Joshua. My Grandparents got married in the Manti temple at a very young age. My Grandpa said as soon as he met my grandma he knew he was going to marry her. Now my grandma on the other hand made my grandpa work for her love.
Grandpa Hundley loved fishing, camping, and the gospel. I can remember when eating breakfast most mornings, he would whip out the scriptures and send me off with a message from our lord. Grandpa Hundley passed away last week from a declining health problems and I was honored to be able to attend his funeral that weekend. I like to think of myself as the strong one in my family. You need a job done, I will do it. You need someone to take over, I'm the one to ask. I flew to Salt Lake late Saturday night so I could spent the night with my Grandma just me and her. You forget how fragile your family is until tragedy hits. She was a rock, keeping it together for her family. The next day the rest of the family came to visit. My grandma asked me to come with her to dress my grandpa. As I was helping dress him in his temple clothes, I started to remember the man he was.
He was a stubborn man who loved his ice cream, but he was also a man of God. He served many callings including a Seminary Teacher, High Counsel Men, and Bishop. He also taught me many life lessons I will take with me forever.
Like Lessons from Grandpa H:
  • How to properly put on a winter jacket with long sleeves on. If you have ever tried this, it's not an easy task.
  • How to put contacts into my eyeballs. He work at an eye doctor for many years and was very knowledgeable in this subject.
  • How to be fully converted to the church. He baptized me at eight and by example shown me how to be a true member of the Church.
  • How to make him some homemade ice cream. Lol!
  • Lastly, How to live your life. He was never scared to get out there and make someones day.
We love you Grandpa Hundley and cant wait for the day we will meet again.
